The in vivo antimicrobial activities of 60% methanolic extract of Viscum album was carried out on six groups of albino rats (48-60 days old) by orogastrically dosing them with 1 ml multiple infections of 2.1 x 104 cfuStaphylococcus aureus + Bacillus cereus; 2.5 x 103 cfu Escherichia coli + Pseudomonas aeruginosa; 2.5 x 104 cfu S. aureus + P. aeruginosa and single infection of 3.4 x 103 cfu E. coli. After the establishment of infections (72 hours), the rats were treated daily with 1000 mg/kg/wt of the plant extract for 7 days. The average weight of the albino rats before infection, during infection and after treatment with extract were determined. The results of the heamatological and histopathological analyses showed that the extract has both therapeutic and safety effects on the experimental animals used.
