Occurrence of bacterial wilt of bitter gourd in Sundarban area of West Bengal, India

Bacterial wilt (Ralstoniarnsolanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi et al.) is a serious problem inrnvegetable cultivation affecting most of the solanaceous crops in West Bengal.rnIncidence of the disease was recorded on tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.),rnpotato (Solanum tuberosum L.), brinjal (Solanum melongena L.), chilli (Capsicum annuum L.), tobacco (Nicotiana tabacumrnL.) and some other economically important crops viz. elephant foot yam (Amorphophallusrnpaeoniifolius (Dennst.) Nicolson), ginger (Zingiber officinalernRosc.) and amaranthus (Amaranthus viridis L.) from Sundarban area ofrnWest Bengal. Occurrence of bacterial wilt in bitter gourd (Momordicarncharantia L.) has been observed first time from Jaynagar I and II blocksrnunder Sundarban area, which is the first recorded incidence of this devastatingrnpathogen in bitter gourd from West Bengal.
