Comparison of various growth media composition for physio-biochemical parameters of biodiesel producing microalgal species (Chlorococcum aquaticum, Scenedesmus obliquus, Nannochloropsis oculata and Chlorella pyrenoidosa)
The aim of this work is to evaluate the effect of five different defined inorganic medium such as BG-11, BBM, Modified HS CHU# 10, Modified Hoagland, Medium, Half strength CH#10 medium on growth parameters of algal strains. As far the study has been conducted it has been found that BG-11 medium was found to be best suited for all algal strains regarding biomass yield, total carbohydrate and protein production. BBM is found to be most suitable media for all microalgal species except Chlorococcum aquaticum in the context of lipid production. Chlorella pyrenoidosa yielded significantly higher lipid content in BBM media as compared to other strains. In BG-11 medium, Scenedesmus obliquus exhibited significantly higher biomass yield, protein and carbohydrate content as compared to other microalgal strains. Modified HS CHU# 10, was found to be most appropriate medium for chlorophyll content in all algal species.
