Biological activities and some antinutritional constituents of Acacia (Acaciapennata) and Pawpaw (Carica papaya) leaves

An extraction of the leaves of Acacia (Acaciapennata) and Pawpaw (Caricapapaya) were carried out. Phytochemical screening of the bioactive agent present in them that were responsible for their activities determined (Sofowora, 1979). The antinutrients constituents were equally determined (Tannins, Phytate and Oxalate). The yield of the extract of Acacia leaves was 9.5% while that of Pawpaw were 11.2%. The phytochemical screening indicate the abundant present of Tannins and Steroids for Acacia leaves and Flavonoids and Alkaloids for pawpaw leaves. The antinutritional present for Acacia were Tannins, Phytate and Oxalate and for Pawpaw were Tannins, Phytate and Oxalate. Active ingredients in Acaciapennata leaves and Carica papaya leaves were Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, salts of glycosidic acid, cyanogenic glycoside and enzyme oxidase that are responsible for their biological activities.
